Earn credit for military training

Terra State Community College recognizes the value of military training and experience. As a result, we accept the American Council on Education (ACE) recommendations for credit. Veteran students with previous credit are encouraged to utilize this program to take advantage of a possible jump start on one of our quality associate degree or certificate programs.

Steps to Receive Military Credit

  1. Complete an Application
All new students must complete our free application by visiting the application page.
  2. Request an Official Military Transcript
You must request an official copy of your military transcript to be sent directly to the college’s Records Office. There is no charge for the evaluation of military experience credits. The Records Office will review your transcript and award credit for applicable courses.

To request an official transcript, contact your respective military branch:

Important: Do not open your transcripts. To be considered valid, transcripts must be opened by Terra State personnel.

Evaluation of Military Credit

Terra State evaluates military training for academic credit using multiple measures, including:

  • Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) (Army, Marine Corps)
  • Air Force Specialty Code (AFSC)
  • Navy Enlisted Classification (NEC)/Ratings

Credit is awarded in accordance with the American Council on Education (ACE) recommendations and the State of Ohio Military Transfer Assurance Guides (MTAGs).

Some military specialties have already been evaluated for credit. You can check for prior equivalencies on Transferology. Transferology can also help assess credits from other institutions you have attended. However, due to the variety of military specialties, Terra State may not have reviewed your specific information yet.
